A small greasy meadow located in the picturesque Chamba Valley, Khajjiar is unknown to many people. But despite of its less popularity, the place enjoys a great and unique charm mainly because of the appeal of its tranquil natural surrounds. An important tourist spot, the quiet ambience of the place attract tourists traveling between Dalhousie and Chamba. The stopover at Khajjiar is a welcome break for the weary tourists.

Attractions
Also known as the Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh, Khajjiar serves as the starting point for treks to Chamba, Dalhousie and Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary among others. Trekking is the best way to explore Khajjiar.

A popular activity here is Zorbing, which involves rolling downhill from inside a plastic ‘zorb’. With its exotic flora and fauna, the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is a delight for nature lovers and wildlife photographers.
The 12th-century Khajinag temple is a small shrine dedicated to the local Goddess or the Devi. This temple is also known as the Golden Devi temple, as it is adorned with a golden dome and spire. Pilgrims visiting the Chamba valley often come to this temple.

Although there isn’t much known about Khajjiar’s history, the temples dating back to the 12th century still stand here in majestic splendor. The most sacred shrine in Khajjiar is the Khajji Naga Temple. People of Khajjiar generally speak Himachali. However, almost all of them are comfortable with Hindi as well.

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is another famous attraction here, and is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Khajjiar. Situated between Dalhousie and Khajjiar Lake, this wildlife reserve is popular for nature walks and hikes. Housing Blue Pine, Green Oak, and Rhododendron, one can also spot barking goral, Himalayan black marten, langur, jackal, bear, and leopard in the sanctuary.

Some of the best places to visit in Khajjiar are its laidback and picturesque villages. Rota, Ladi etc are some of the most wonderful villages offering clear views of the Mount Kailash, green slopes, and snow-capped peaks. These villages are around Khajjiar Ground and are popular for their apple orchards.

Best time to visit Khajjiar
Khajjiar enjoys a mild weather during summer, which lasts from May to October. The temperatures are moderate ranging from 12˚ C to 24˚ C. The summers have are bearable with warm days and cold and pleasant nights, making the place most appropriate for sightseeing.

By Air – Gaggal Airport which is also known as Kangra airport is situated in Gaggal and is the nearest airport from Khajjiar.
By Train – Pathankot Railway Station is the nearest airport to Khajjiar, and is well connected to almost all major stations of the country, such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Jammu Tawi, etc.
By Road – Khajjiar is well connected by bus services from all neighbouring towns and cities in Himachal, such as Shimla, Chamba, Dalhousie, etc.
