Meenakshi Temple, Madurai
Meenakshi Temple is one of the most impressive temples of South India. Situated in Madurai, the temple dates back as far as 2,500 years. The temple complex covers 14 acres, and has 4,500 pillars and 14 towers. The temple's four main towers and entrances each face one of the four directions (north, east, south, and west). The Meenakshi Temple also contains a 1000 pillared hall, temple art museum, holy golden lotus tank, and musical pillars.
Golconda Fort, Hyderabad
The ruins of Golkonda Fort are located on the outskirt of Hyderabad. This fort originated as a mud fort in the 13th century, when it was founded by the Kakatiya Kings of Waranga. During the 17th century, the fort rose to prominence for its diamond market. The fort’s ruins consist of several gateways, drawbridges, temples, mosques, halls and royal apartments.
Mysore Palace
Designed by British architect Henry Irwin and constructed between 1897 and 1912, Mysore Palace is one of the prominent attractions of South India. The previous palace, made out of wood in Hindu style, was destroyed by fire. The architecture of the current palace is Indo-Saracenic style -- a combination of Hindu, Islamic, Rajput, and Gothic influences. An interesting fact about Mysore Palace is that it is India’s only illuminated royal structure.
Lakshadweep
A cluster of 21 islands, Lakshadweep is famed for its scenic beauty. Different islands offer different facilities, attracting all kind of travellers from far and wide.
