The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a birdwatcher’s paradise nestled in close proximity to scenic backwaters. The sanctuary is located in the Kottayam district, and is acquainted with various migratory birds. The Pathiramanal Island aka Sand of Midnight is also accessible from this sanctuary via a 10-minute boat ride. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is home to local birds like owls, cuckoos, waterfowls and herons. There are also various migratory birds like the Siberian Crane.
