Another significant feature of Pahalgam is that it serves as the starting point for the annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave in the months of July and August. Attracting thousands of devotees every year, the ice lingam that forms naturally within the Amarnath Cave is worshipped by believers.
Kolahoi Glacier is another popular attraction here, and the only way to reach the glacier is through an arduous trek. At 18,000 feet, the breathtaking views upon arrival definitely make the journey worth the effort.
A few kilometers from Pahalgam are the Baisaran Hills - enclosed by a dense forest of pines, firs and cedars over the Lidder Valley, this makes for a perfect campsite.
Another popular attraction here is that the town holds an amazing two day long Snow Festival that exhibit various winter sports like skiing, snow-sledging and many more which tourists can participate in. Other activities that tourists can indulge in are golf, trekking and angling.

The best time to visit Pahalgam is between the months of March to June, when the town enjoys summer season. This period serves as a great time to enjoy outdoor activities. The month of July marks the beginning of the monsoons, which last till September. The temperature ranges are similar to that of the summer season. The place receives a lesser amount of rainfall compared to other hill stations.

By Air – Srinagar airport is the closest domestic airport to Pahalgam, and is well-connected to other major cities like New Delhi, Jammu, Leh, Mumbai and Chandigarh.
By Train – The nearest railhead to Pahalgam is Jammu Tawi, which is well-linked with most of the Indian cities.
By Road – Pahalgam is well connected to Srinagar and Jammu by buses. The bus service in Pahalgam provides you with luxury and even general coaches of private companies.
