Gangotri, situated in Uttarkashi, is a well renowned pilgrimage destination in India. Places to Visit

Ganges Glacier
Owing to its mineral content and the terrain of medicinal plants, it is believed that the Ganges Glacier water is therapeutic in nature. So much so that it is believed that even when it is kept for years, the water doesn't become contaminated.

Gangotri Temple
This is a religiously important temple among Hindus, and is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. The temple is the highest and the most important shrine dedicated to the deity. The sacred temple and the surroundings offer a scenic view of the breathtaking Himalayas. Thousands of devotees from all over visit the glorious temple every year to seek blessings from Goddess Ganga.

Kedar Tal
Another popular attraction here is the Kedar Lake, located at an altitude of 4425m above sea level. The lake is known for its beautiful trek up the rolling hills. The cool water and magical ambience will fill you with serenity.

As a lesser known destination to tourists, Harsil is a perfect getaway for those in search of peace. Blanketed with the dense cover of pine and deodar, the place is nestled amid Himalayas. Also adorned with apple orchards, this village elevated at a height of 2620 m above the sea level is also known for its numerous trekking trails.

Tapovan is a destination famed for its hot springs. The springs here are believed to have medicinal properties that can cure skin diseases. The presence of scenic landscapes all around is what makes this place a true charmer. This place is also surrounded by a few villages and farmlands, where you can have a first-hand experience of the rural life here.

Gaumukh Tapovan Trek
Gaumukh Tapovan Trek is one of the most gratifying treks in India. Perching on the high peaks, the climb to Gaumukh to Tapovan is steep. The view of the surrounding peaks makes the trek even more fascinating. The Gangotri Tapovan trekking is made for all adventure lovers who can enjoy the various activities of Mountain Climbing, Rock Climbing and glacier traverse.

Dodi Tal
Dodi Tal is a sparkling lake, which is home to the famous Himalayan trouts. It has little log cabins scattered around the lake for camping and resting. One can also trek 16 km to Dodi Tal via Agoda and Kalyani.

Gangotri National Park
Nestled in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, the Gangotri National Park is adorned with challenging treks, crushed snow, beaten trails, whistling woods and ruffled leaves. The National Park is idyllically situated in the natural surroundings of the Garhwal region, and makes for a perfect adventurous visit.

Best time to visit
The ideal time to visit Gangotri is between April to June and from September to October. Summers in Gangotri are quite pleasant and a perfect season to pay homage at the holy shrine. Monsoons are characterised by heavy rainfall, and it is difficult to travel there during that time. Winters are frigid and not the best time to visit the place.

By Air - Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the closest domestic airport, located 317 km away from the main Badrinath town.
By Train - Those travelling by train can land at the Dehradun Junction.
By Road - Road connectivity is also possible from nearby cities.
