A picturesque hill station situated near the Himalayan Range, Kufri is at a distance of 20 km from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. Fouded in the year 1819 by the British, the popularity of the hill station grew in the last few decades. Deriving its name from “Kufr” which means lake, Kufri is especially popular among trekkers, as it is the starting point of treks to Manali, Shimla, Rewalsar and Fagu among others. The cool and pleasant climate, along with stunning natural beauty, makes Kufri a perfect summer getaway.

Attractions
Kufri National Park is one of the popular attractions here. The park boasts of a wide range of Himalayan Flora and Fauna. Housing over 180 variety of birds and enormous variety of animals, the National Park is a huge attraction among the tourists. The park offers a spectacular view of the entire snow-capped Himalayan range.

The Fagu region, situated in between two valleys surrounded by forest covers and apple orchards, is another major attraction here. The place is famous for organising various winter sports festivals, because of its ski routes. During summers the village of Fagu becomes a popular picnic spot.

The highest point in the region of Kufri is the Mahasu Peak, from where ranges like Badrinath and Kedarnath are clearly visible. Being the highest peak in Kufri, adventure sports like hiking and trekking are also practised here. It takes a short hike from Kufri through the woods of Himalayan cedars to reach Mahasu Peak.  

Another popular attraction here is the Himalayan Natue Park that consists of different animals like musk deer, barking deer, black bear, leopard cat and cheer pheasant. One can also enjoy camping facility in the park.

Best time to visit Kufri
Enjoying a pleasant climate throughout the year, the average temperature in summers ranges from 12°C to 19°C. Summers are therefore, the ideal time to visit Kufri. The month of July marks the arrival of monsoonand stays till September with temperature going down to 10 °C. Winter season begins in October and ends in March with temperature ranging from 17°C to -3°C. During this season, the place witnesses heavy snowfall that attracts honeymooners and tourists to visit this place at this time too. March to November is the best time to visit Kufri as the climate is quite pleasant and you can experience a delightful holiday in Kufri.

How to reach Kufri
By AirShimla is the nearest airport and flights from Shimla operate to Delhi and Kullu. Taxis are easily available from Shimla airport to reach Kufri.
By TrainShimla is connected by narrow gauge line with Kalka (100 km) which in turn is connected with the major cities in India.
By RoadDecent roads connect Kufri to the neighboring towns. State owned buses as well as the private AC and Non-AC buses are accessible from Shimla to Kufri.
