Blessed with so many popular attractions, Chopta promises to make your tour a memorable one to remember. Situated at an elevation of 3680 metres above sea level, Tugnath Mandir is one of the popular attractions here. It is one of the Panch Kedar and highest temple of Lord Shiva. The trek to Tungnath Mandir is easy but steep and tiring.

Another popular attraction here is the Chandrashila, which is the highest point of the mountain on which Chopta and Tungnath Mandir is located. Mesmerising views of the 270 degree Himalayan range is visible from this place.

Situated 39kms from Chopta, Gopeshwar is another popular attraction here. The headquarter of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, Gopeshwar is situated at an elevation of 1500 metres above sea level.

Another major attraction here is the Kanchula Korak Musk Deer Sanctuary, which is famous for breeding musk deers. Spread over an area of 5 square kilometers, the sanctuary is an ideal place for tourists who love animals and are looking for rare Himalayan Wildlife.

The winter seat of Lord Kedarnath, Ukhimath is another major attraction among the tourists here. Situated 31kms from Chopta, the idol of Lord Kedarnath is worshipped in Ukhimath during winters, as the region of Kedarnath is prone to heavy snowfall during winters. The temples of Usha and Anirudh, Shiva and Parvati are worth a visit.

Best time to Visit
Chopta is best visited during the summer due to its pleasant weather. The summers in the region extend through the months of March, April and May, experiencing a maximum temperature of around thirty degrees, and a minimum temperature of around ten degrees.

The months of July, August and September are the monsoon months in Chopta. Rainfall during this time is mild, and the overall weather is pleasant.

Winters in Chopta run through the months of November, December, January, and February. The maximum temperature in the region during this time is around fifteen degrees (15°C) and the minimum temperature will be around minus fifteen degrees (-15°C).

How to reach Chopta
By Air – The nearest airport to Chopta is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is located in the city of Dehradun.
By Train – The nearest railway station to Chopta is in Rishikesh. There are regular express trains running to the town from different tourist destinations of the country.
By Road – Regular bus services to the town of Chopta are available within Uttarakhand. A good road network connects the town with the key tourist places in the state and outside of it. Chopta remains well connected by road to popular cities in the state including Rishikesh, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Gaurikund and Pauri among others.
