One of the prominent cities of Chhattisgarh, Chirmiri is a beautiful hill station located in the Koriya district, and is renowned for the coalmines situated in the town. The town of Chirmiri has earned the position of being the second largest Crane in the continent of Asia. Surrounded by lush greenery, temples, and coal mines, the coal industrial belt has developed in the region owing to the close proximity of the coalmines. It has a pleasant climate throughout the year, and there are a number of temples in the hill station which explains the rich cultural and traditional significance of the place.

Attractions

Chirmiri is blessed with beautiful landscape for the tourists to enjoy while touring the town. One of the major tourist attractions of the region is the Lord Jagannath Temple. With amazing sculptures in its architecture, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Built by the workers from Puri, the temple is the exact replica of the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Another major attraction of the place is the Kalibadi Temple, located in Haldibadi. It is on a hill, and located only 1 km away from the main station. Gufa Mandir is another popular attraction here located in Godaripara Maha Maya Temple in Ratnapur. It is one of the 52 Shakthi Peeths in India. Dedicated to the Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati, the temple was built by the Kalachuri King Ratnadeva in the 12-13th century.

There is another temple dedicated to Kantideval. It is the oldest temple built in 1039, and is said to be constructed by an ascetic known as Santhosh Giri. The temple is guarded by Kalabhairava residing in another temple on the approach road.
Amrit Dhara Waterfalls is the most famous waterfalls here, which has a dense forest cover that has some of the exotic species of flora and fauna. There is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva near to the waterfall. Shivarathri festival is the main festival celebrated here. Tourists can also enjoy trekking, or can stay in forest camps, or opt for natural walks.

Best time to visit
The best time to visit Chirmiri is in the winter months, which is an ideal time for sightseeing. The climate is pleasant between the months of October and April.

By Air – The nearest airport to Chirmiri is the Raipur airport. There are no direct flights to Chirmiri.
By Train – Chirimiri is well connected to other major cities of the country via regular trains.
By Road – One can get a bus to Renukoot from nearby cities, which is just 133 km away from Chirmiri.
